Nationwide there are 27 million people with Chronic Kidney Disease.  Over half a million have End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant to survive.  More than 354,000 people are receiving dialysis treatments at least 3 times a week.  In Georgia alone, there are 14,086 patients receiving dialysis according to the 2010 statistics from the Dialysis Patient Citizens, a 501 (c) (4) non-profit organization governed by dialysis patients. This ranks Georgia as having the 7th highest dialysis population nation-wide following (in descending order) California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
